How Does the NFL Draft Work?
The draft consists of seven rounds of drafting with 254 picks divided between all the 31 teams. On the night, each team has 10 minutes to make each choice (and are said to be ‘on the lock’ when making their decisions). With most of the top players being drafted in the first round, much of the hype and suspense of the NFL draft centres around this first round.
The order in which teams choose their selection is reversely based on how the teams finished in the previous season, meaning that the team that finished last gets the f🌸irst pick and the team that finished first gets the last pick.
Where things get more complex is that each team is able to trade away their picks to other teams beforehand in exchange for the opportunity to sign players throughout the season. As a result of this, during the actual NFL draft, picks might not take place in the exact order and some time teams may end up with more or less picks than others.
What is also important to remember is that Draft picks can also be swapped out from team to team on the night itself which adds to💛 the overall suspense and ꧟excitement of the highly anticipated NFL draft.

NFL Draft Betting Markets
With the sporting calendar coming to a complete standstill, bookies have gone all out in providing thousands of betting options for punters to choose from, including NFL draft prop bets, futures bets and many more. We have listed some of the most common ones below for you to consider.
First Pick by Team
In a First Pick by Team market, punters will typically be able to predict which position will be drafted first in each team. With so many different positions to choose from, making accurate NFL draft predictions in this market this usually require researching which positions are lacking in each team.
Player Draft Position
In a Player Draft Position market, the aim is to predict at which point a player will be drafted. These bets are typically given as over/under bets where book🐲ies will provide a predetermined number and punters have to predict whether the player will be drafted before or after this number.
First Round Picks by College
Betting on the First Round Picks by College is another exciting market and can come in a variety of forms. Most commonly, bookies will provide odds for the total number of players drafted in the first round for each college. Once again, this will usually be listed as an over/under betting market.
To make matters more exciting, bookies have also introduced head to head college markets. such as betting on which college will have more first round picks compared to other colleges; for example, the Big 12 vs the Big Ten, or Alabama vs LSU. These NFL draft bets will make use of handicaps to make them more appealing to punters.
First Round Picks by Position
A First Round Pick by Position market involves predicting the total number of players drafted in each position. NFL draft betting odds in this market can be found for each playing position and are typically listed as over/under bets.
Players to be Drafted in the First Round
In this very straightforward market, punters have to predict whether a specific player will actually be drafted in the first round of the draft. This is commonly displayed as a yes or no💛 type of bet, with NFL draft betting odds listed according to the likely outcomes.
Specials
In addition to the standard NFL draft betting markets, bookies also offer specials bets which have proven to be very favourable amongst punters. Some of the most popular NFL draft betting specials markets include betting on who will be the Number 1 (or 2 or 3) Overall Pick, which player will be drafted in the Top 5 or Top 10 Overall Picks, and the exact order of the first 3 picks.
Create Your Own Bets
If the thousands of NFL draft betting choices are not enough for you, some of the top betting sites in the game, such as William Hill, give you the chance to create your own unique bet which will then be priced up the bookie. This can be done via Twitter by using a bookie’s specific hashtag or online through the request a bet feature. Having the option to create your own bet means that you have a near-infinite number of possibilities when betting on the NFL draft.
